Discover70 Foundation works to expand and strengthen marine protected areas (MPAs) in vulnerable coastal and ocean regions through partnerships with local communities, conservation organizations, governments, and scientists. The Foundation supports the creation and effective management of MPAs while building the financial sustainability and operational capacity of organizations and communities that protect them. Through education, storytelling, and advocacy, Discover70 Foundation raises awareness about the importance and success of marine conservation efforts. The Foundation also collaborates closely with Mission Blue Hope Spots to improve conservation effectiveness, strengthen local stewardship, and help create a connected global network of thriving and resilient marine ecosystems.
Discover70 Foundation’s fisheries conservation program promotes sustainable seafood practices that protect marine ecosystems while supporting coastal communities and local economies. Working with fishers, scientists, restaurants, and community partners, the program increases awareness about fish stocks and ocean health to guide more responsible consumer behavior and seafood choices. By partnering with local restaurants and seafood providers, Discover70 Foundation encourages the adoption and promotion of sustainably sourced seafood while educating consumers on the importance of protecting vulnerable species. The program also supports responsible fisheries management, community stewardship, and science-based conservation efforts that help rebuild fish populations, reduce overfishing, and ensure long-term ocean and food security for future generations.
Discover70 Foundation’s habitat restoration program works with partners in vulnerable coastal and marine regions to restore and protect critical ocean ecosystems, including mangroves, seagrass beds and coral reefs. Through collaborative grants, community partnerships, and science-based restoration initiatives, the Foundation supports projects that improve biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience, and protect coastal livelihoods. Discover70 Foundation’s Early Career Ocean Professionals program supports the next generation of ocean leaders across the Caribbean by creating pathways for education, training, internships, mentorship, and employment in ocean science and conservation. Working with regional and international partners, the program helps young professionals gain practical experience, build technical skills, and access career opportunities that strengthen ocean stewardship across the region. The Foundation also serves as the Coordinator for the Caribbean Node of the UN Ocean Decade Early Career Ocean Professionals Global Project, connecting Caribbean ECOPs to global networks, collaborative research, leadership opportunities, and conservation initiatives that build long-term capacity for a healthier and more sustainable ocean future.
Discover70 Foundation’s marine debris program addresses the growing threat of ocean plastics and abandoned, lost, and otherwise discarded fishing gear that damage marine ecosystems and coastal communities. The program raises awareness about the impacts of marine debris through education, outreach, and community engagement initiatives that encourage responsible behaviors and long-term stewardship. Working with schools, local communities, fishers, and conservation partners, the Foundation develops and implements programs focused on prevention, cleanup, recycling, and sustainable waste management solutions. Special attention is given to tackling ghost gear and fishing-related debris through collaborative recovery efforts, education campaigns, and community-driven solutions that help protect marine life and restore healthier ocean ecosystems.
Discover70 Foundation’s Ocean Literacy Program works to increase understanding and awareness of the ocean’s importance through education, teacher engagement, and community outreach. In partnership with UNESCO and aligned with global Ocean Literacy initiatives under the UN Ocean Decade, the Foundation seeks to establish a formal linkage that promotes ocean education within Johns Creek and surrounding schools. The program engages teachers through training, educational resources, and collaborative learning opportunities that integrate ocean science and conservation into classrooms.
